Espanyol 1 – Betis 4:Home fans stunned, as Espanyol suffer 4-1 loss to Betis

Real Betis’ 4-1 win over Espanyol on Friday, was hard fought at Rcde Stadium. Espanyol wanted to improve their league standing following a disappointing 2-2 draw with Cádiz in their previous game. Betis were looking to extend their winning run after a 4-0 victory against Alaves. As the table looks today, Espanyol are in 11th place on the table and has 27 points while Betis sit in 3rd with 40 points after 22 matches.

Budgerigars started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, with Raul De Tomas giving Espanyol the lead at the 14 minute mark. However, their lead didn’t last for long, Borja Iglesias producing an equaliser, at 31 minutes, bringing The Green-and-Whites level. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Guido Rodriguez, 36 minutes in, finishing the first half 1-2.

Betis fought back, with Borja Iglesias finding the net again at the 53 minute mark. However they weren’t finished yet and Willian Jose made it 4-1 at the 76 minute mark to make it 4-1.

For Espanyol, David Lopez, Loren Moron, Adri Embarba, Keidi Bare and Tonny Vilhena, came on for Fernando Calero, Oscar Melendo, Aleix Vidal, Manu Morlanes and Javi Puado. Betis brought on Cristian Tello, Willian Jose, Andres Guardado, Victor Camarasa and Victor Ruiz, to replace Juanmi, Borja Iglesias, Sergio Canales, William Carvalho and German Pezzella.

The referee booked seven players. Manu Morlanes and Raul De Tomas from Espanyol, who saw yellow cards and Raul De Tomas (2 yellow cards), sent off with a red, as well as for Betis German Pezzella, Juanmi, Borja Iglesias and William Carvalho also seeing yellows.

Espanyol will next play Athletic Bilbao away, with Betis facing Villarreal at home.
